Lesedi Cultural Village

Roy, Rebecca and I took a trip out today to check out the "Lesedi Cultural Village" near Hartbeespoort (which is about 30 mins away from Pretoria)..... it is a kinda village that has all the various cultures of South Africa under one rooftop.... so, a nice introduction to the different cultures in this country... anyway, we all met for breakfast at this pancake place near Roy's place.... sorry, forgot to take pics of the breakfast... hehe... Anyhow, here are the pics at the Cultural village.....

a pile of rocks..... you are probably wondering "why in the world is Ivan taking a picture of a pile of rocks?". Well, according to Zulu custom, it is their belief that when you will get good luck when u spit onto a rock, and throw it into this pile.... so, many people (including us visitors) have done so...
Zulu warrior guarding the entrance to the village that we were about to enter
Rebecca in the process of getting proposed for marriage by our Zulu guide... apparently, she is worth 25 cattle..... hehe.... usual going rate was 11 cattle.....
after Zulu women are married, they are to wear a hat, which is sewn onto their hair, and wear it forever.... Zulu warrior showing us how to use the Zulu spear.... inspired me to watch the movie "Zulu" again..... starring Michael Caine... must go and borrow it somehow...
not a very good shot, but only shot of a Busuthu man in traditional outfit... this tribe stay mainly in Lesotho (u know... the country I just visited that is engulfed entirely by South Africa?). The hat he wears is the traditional hat.. Roy, about to enter a Xhosa house.... the walls are actually covered with cow-dung... which apparently cools the house .....
another amazing idea by the tribesmen... they place their pots in one of the corners of the cross opposite the direction of the wind.... so, the fire can remain strong and is sheltered from the wind.. very smart.....
